Update: the Tuesday that 4 tow-ins hit at once and I finally timed my bay work
Last Tuesday was the worst and best shift I have had in a while. Four cars got towed in between 8 and 9am at our shop off Grand Ave, and my bay was already full with a brake job. I used to just run around and hope for the best, but this time I wrote each car on a sticky note with the wait time and stuck them in order on the toolbox. It sounds dumb but I finished the brake job, did two quick diag checks, and still clocked out only 20 minutes late. The part I did not expect was the customer with the dead alternator. He said, "I figured you would push me to Friday," and I had him out by 3pm. It was a mess of a morning but I got through it by keeping the list in front of me instead of in my head. Does anyone else here use a paper board for the bay, or is it all on a screen now?
Quick fix, a dead alternator usually means the battery light came on first, so the diag was probably faster than you're making it sound. Paper board on the toolbox is the way, screens get greasy and nobody wants to scroll with gloves on.
