That 2003 Civic with the mystery misfire taught me to always check the basics, even when the scanner points somewhere fancy.
After three hours chasing a phantom cam sensor code, my boss walked over, pulled the #3 spark plug wire, and found it was just loose, which made me feel pretty silly for not starting there.

Wasn't there a saying about that, like check the simple stuff first?

Oh man, that's so true! I read this thing once about how our brains jump to the hardest fix first. Scott.miles, isn't it wild how often the problem is just something loose or unplugged? I've wasted so much time overthinking stuff that had a simple answer. It's a good habit to force yourself to start with the basics, even if it feels too easy.

Yeah "check the simple stuff first" is basically rule number one. Reminds me of when my buddy spent 3 hours trying to fix his lawnmower, tore the whole carburetor apart, then realized he just forgot to put gas in it. He was so mad at himself but I couldn't stop laughing. Simple stuff gets overlooked cause it feels too dumb to be the answer.
