Got chased by a goose at Piedmont Park and now I need a new picnic spot
Last Saturday my girlfriend and I set up near the lake at Piedmont Park with a $40 spread from Publix. Three minutes in, a goose the size of a small dog locked eyes on my turkey sub and came straight for me. I grabbed the blanket and ran toward 10th Street while she just laughed and filmed it. Is there anywhere else in town to picnic where the birds mind their own business?
A goose the size of a small dog is no joke, those Piedmont Park ones have zero fear of humans. Your best bet is to skip the lake areas completely and head to the grassy spots near the softball fields on the north side of the park. Fewer water birds hang out there since there's no water, and the ones that do stay away from people. If you want to switch parks, Grant Park has a nice picnic area by the pool where I've eaten plenty of times without getting mugged by wildlife. Just keep your food in a bag until you're ready to eat, because once they see it out, it's over. Also, your girlfriend filming instead of helping is hilarious, but you might want to have a talk with her about team loyalty.
