Why does nobody talk about how bad most grocery store avocados are

Spent 10 years buying them rock hard or mushy from Kroger. My neighbor finally told me to switch to a local Mexican market. Why do stores even sell avocados that clearly aren't ripe enough or are already turning black?

The local mexican market is the only answer. Kroger avocados are either concrete or brown sludge with no in between. They sit in those plastic bags and never get a chance to breathe. One time I cracked one open at home and it had this stringy texture and bitter taste. Total waste of money. Go find a real mercado, trust me on this.

My buddy Carlos spent like 4 bucks on two avocados from a random mercado on the south side and they were perfect. Creamy, rich, not a single brown vein. Meanwhile I got the same bag from Kroger you mentioned @ivan_mason and one of them had a weird dark spot inside that tasted like dirt. You know any good spots in the northwest part of town or is it all about the east side?
