Just realized a guy at the auto parts store saved me $80 with one question
I was buying a new alternator for my 2002 Honda Civic last Tuesday at the O'Reilly's on 5th Street. The guy behind the counter asked if I checked the voltage regulator wire first, kind of like he knew something. He showed me how a loose connector can mimic a dead alternator and had me test it right in the parking lot. Tightening that one wire fixed my battery light and saved me $80 plus the hassle of swapping parts.

That O'Reilly's guy probably saved me $60 once with the same trick on my 97 Accord. Parts store employees like that are worth their weight in gold.

Old Ford truck I had did the same thing. Ground wire looked fine but had a tiny crack in the rubber. Taped it up and drove it another two years without charging issues.

Man, I used to just swap parts out without thinking twice. @averymartin that Ford story is exactly the kind of thing I'd have ignored before. That O'Reilly's guy totally changed how I look at fixing stuff now.
