That $250 attic fan install is either my best or worst call this summer
I paid a handyman $250 to put in a roof-mounted attic fan last month in Phoenix and my upstairs went from 95 to 82 degrees, but my electric bill jumped $40 because it runs all day. A buddy swears his $60 box fan in the window does the same thing for pennies, so now I'm wondering if I just paid for the convenience of not climbing into a hot attic. Anyone else splurge on a fix that seemed worth it until the utility statement arrived, or am I just bad at math and cheap at heart?

Used to roll my eyes at people who paid for stuff they could DIY, figuring cheap always wins. But then I watched my neighbor's $60 window fan just push hot air around while his upstairs stayed at 90, and that roof fan actually pulls the heat out instead of recycling it. Tbh you paid for air that actually moves, not just noise, so the $40 might be the real cost of staying cool.
