Can we talk about the $2 burner covers that cut my gas bill by $14 a month?

My neighbor Doris told me last Tuesday that she keeps a folded piece of foil on her stove burners when they are not in use. I laughed at first. She showed me her last two utility bills, and the difference was $14 a month. I tried it on my four burners and the next bill dropped $11. Has anyone else tried covering their burners or is Doris just messing with me?
