Spent $200 on a metal detector last month... found a rusty horseshoe

I bought this cheap metal detector off Amazon to try finding old stuff in my backyard. All I got after 3 hours of digging was a horseshoe from like 1950. Has anyone here actually found something cool with a budget detector or do you need the expensive ones?

Picked up the same hobby last year and after 8 hours of digging, I found what I thought was a gold coin but it was just a really shiny button from an old coat. I'm starting to think my backyard is just a graveyard for junk and old hardware. Maybe the expensive ones can tell the difference between treasure and trash before you dig?

Got a rusty bottle cap and a pull tab from mine. Pretty much same deal.

Are you really expecting buried treasure from a $200 Amazon special? My cousin spent twice that on a "pro" detector and his best find was a mud-caked dog tag from the 80s. Most backyards are just full of old nails and junk no matter what you're swinging. I'd say you got your money's worth with a rusty horseshoe, at least it's a story.
