Shoutout to that old pottery shard I nearly tossed

I was digging a test pit outside a barn in rural Vermont last June and almost threw away a tiny brown shard thinking it was a broken beer bottle. Turned out to be a 3000 year old Native American cooking pot fragment with these faint burn marks on the inside. Anyone else ever have a regular-looking find turn out way older than you expected?

Did you keep it or send it to someone to look at?

Did you get it dated or just guess?

My buddy found a $20 bill once and spent like an hour trying to figure out what year it was from. He ended up just using it to buy tacos anyway.
