Two climbers, same oak, one way was clearly safer

Helped a buddy take down a big red oak in Dayton last month. He insisted on using his old rope lanyard while I switched to a friction hitch setup. My positioning was way more stable and I finished my cuts in half the time. Anyone else notice how much easier a modern hitch makes working up there versus fighting the old gear?
