Switched from multimeter to a clamp meter for compressor starts and it saved me an hour on a fridge call in Tucson
Was chasing a no-start on a Whirlpool fridge last month. Old me would've spent 30 minutes probing terminals and second-guessing readings. Clamp meter let me check start cap draw in about 5 seconds flat. Anyone else made the switch and found it speeds things up that much?

Is it bad that I bought one just to feel like I knew what I was doing?

Man I bought three different ones before I finally got a clue. Started with a cheap plastic model that broke in like a week, then overpaid for a fancy one that did way too much stuff I never used. The trick is to just get one that fits your hand good and doesn't have a million buttons you'll never touch. I use a Logitech G305 now and it's perfect for me, no regrets. You'll figure out your thing after a few months of using it, don't stress about it.

Did you actually learn enough from it to fake it for a while, or did it just sit there looking official? I'm curious if the price tag made you feel more confident even if the thing wasn't doing much for you. That kind of purchase can be a real trap if you never actually figure out if it's helping or just collecting dust.
