Bought a $180 UV dye kit to chase a refrigerant leak and it was the schrader valve the whole time
Spent $180 on a UV dye injection kit plus a blacklight six months ago because I was sure this Whirlpool fridge had a leak in the sealed system somewhere impossible. After three separate dye injections and pulling the fridge apart twice, the glow showed up right at the schrader valve fitting, a $4 part I could have swapped in ten minutes. I had already quoted the customer for a possible evaporator job and almost ordered one. Now I keep a $6 bottle of soapy water on the truck first and I have not touched the dye kit since. Any of you still using dye or did you switch to electronic sniffers for the small stuff?

Did you pressure test the valve before pulling the fridge apart?
