I finally realized my anime 'hot takes' were just me being a jerk

For years I'd jump into threads about shows like 'My Hero Academia' just to say the fights were boring and the characters were dumb, thinking I was being smart. Then I saw a post where someone said 'discussion isn't just saying you hate popular things' and it clicked that I was just shutting down talk, not adding to it. How do you actually give a good, critical take on a show without just being negative?
