Warning: My 8-year-old nephew asked me a question that broke my brain for a second

He was watching me run a wire and asked, 'If the alarm is so smart, why can't it just tell the bad guy to go away?' I had to stop and think about it, lmao. Has anyone else had a kid ask you something that made you question the whole job?
