Overheard a newbie say wireless sensors never fail... yikes
Was at a supply house yesterday and heard a kid telling his buddy that wireless sensors are basically bulletproof. I've replaced at least 6 dead Honeywell 5800s this year alone from battery corrosion alone. Has anyone else noticed a spike in false signals from those older wireless units lately?

My neighbor had two 5808s go bad in the same month. One was giving false alarms every time the sun hit it just right, and the other just stopped transmitting altogether. He finally gave up and put in hardwired units after the third false alarm cost him a service call fee.

@stellaa69 that sun triggering false alarms thing sounds like a pain, my old smoke detector used to go off every time I opened the oven.

Forget the sensors themselves for a sec, I think part of the problem is people cramming them into cheap weatherproof housings that trap moisture. Seen more than a few where the housing turned into a little greenhouse and cooked the battery contacts.
