I thought remote system checks were useless until I adjusted a sensor from my truck.

Yeah, always figured those were pointless until I had to fix something from my own truck. Really does come in handy sometimes.

Read a piece once about how mechanics often keep odd tools because they've saved jobs before. It said the most beaten-up wrench in the box usually has the best story. Makes sense now seeing how a simple tool can get you out of a tight spot. Never toss out the stuff collecting dust in your garage.

What was the exact problem you had to fix that changed your mind? I had a similar wake-up call with my own set of tools. For years, I kept a few odd pieces in my garage thinking they were junk. Then my old sedan threw a belt on a back road, and one of those 'junk' tools was the only thing that could tighten it enough to get home. It taught me that even the most basic tools have their place when you're in a pinch. Now I look at every tool in my kit with a lot more respect.
