Heard a tech say he stopped testing zones on install day, and I can't get it out of my head
Was at a supply counter in Reno and the guy next to me said he skips walk tests now because "the panel tells you everything." I get the time crunch, but how many of you are actually still walking every zone before you sign off?
Laughed at this because I'm the guy who used to skip the walk test and then spent a whole Saturday chasing a dead zone I created myself by nicking a staple through the wire. The panel tells you the circuit is closed, it does not tell you a couch is sitting on top of a sensor or that the wire is pinched behind a baseboard where nobody will ever find it. Walking every zone takes twenty minutes on a small house and saves you a free trip back plus a ticked off customer. I still walk every single one, every time, even when my knees are screaming at me on the third trip up the stairs. The techs who skip it are just borrowing time from their future selves.
