The $65 torque wrench I bought in 2009 finally bit me
Back in 2009 I picked up a cheap beam-style torque wrench at a pawn shop in Tulsa for $65. Used it for years on light stuff, never thought twice about calibration. Last month I torqued a cylinder head on a Lycoming and it felt off, so I checked it against a digital unit at the hangar. Turns out it was reading 12 ft-lbs low, and I had to redo the whole job. Finally coughed up $180 for a proper clicker type from Snap-on, but that old one cost me a weekend and a few good words. Anyone else trust a bargain tool for too long before it cost them?
