Skipped the torque wrench and used the German spec approach on a 737 flap track last month
We had a flap track bolt on a 737 in Wichita that calls for 240 inch pounds and I grabbed the torque wrench while my lead just snugged it down with a ratchet and sent it. Two weeks later the plane came back for a different write up and that same bolt had backed off about a quarter turn, so I torqued it again right in front of him and he just shrugged. Am I the weird one for thinking the spec sheet exists for a reason, or do most of you guys actually torque stuff that says torque?
