Senior A&P told me to stop using speedhandles on torque and I thought he was crazy

He showed me my last 3 jobs were all 5-8 ft-lbs over spec on the final check and I realized my wrist was adding extra twist. Has anyone else had to retrain how they do repetitive torque after getting caught on a QA audit?

Did you notice you were doing it at all before he showed you the numbers? That's the spooky part, how your body just learns bad habits without you knowing.

Is it really that big of a deal though? 5-8 ft-lbs over isn't exactly catastrophic on most jobs, and speedhandles are made for a reason (to be faster). QA audits catch stuff like this all the time, it's just them covering their butts.

Had a buddy who messed up a whole batch of engine mounts because he was cranking them down too fast with a speedhandle. @the_nathan totally nailed it about bad habits sneaking up on you. QA caught it but it still cost him a weekend of rework!
