Finally found a way to get those stripped safety wire holes out without a drill press
Been fighting a stubborn stripped hole on a 737 cowl latch for two days. Tried the usual helicoil kit and it kept spinning. Then one of the old timers told me to use a left hand drill bit at low speed with cutting oil, and the bit actually grabbed the remnants and backed them out clean. Took 15 minutes total after I wasted 2 hours on the fancy kit. Anyone else have a go-to for stripped hardware that doesnt involve sending the part to the machine shop?

Left hand bits are criminally underrated, that trick saved me on a stubborn actuator bracket once. Once you get one of those bad boys spinning, it's almost like the bolt wants to come out for you.
