Borescope told me a different story than I believed for years

For 3 years I was dead set that a noisy #2 bearing meant immediate overhaul, then last month in Denver I watched a senior inspector run a borescope and find just a scored cage, not a wiped bearing. He swapped the cage and oil analysis came back clean, so now I question every rule of thumb I memorized. Anyone else ever had a borescope change their call on a major?
