Picked the $20 toaster oven basket over the $12 silicone liner for my air fryer and I regret it
Last week I stood in the aisle at the Target on Route 9 for like 15 minutes holding a metal basket and a silicone liner, and I went with the basket because it felt sturdier. Three batches of frozen fries later, the fries stick to it and the coating is already flaking off into my food, so now I'm soaking it every single time. Does anyone actually use the silicone ones, and do they crisp things up okay or do they come out soggy?
The silicone ones work fine for crisping as long as you don't crowd them. I use mine for fries, nuggets, whatever, and they come out about the same as the bare basket, maybe a touch less browned on the very bottom. The trick is the little holes, they let the hot air through so stuff doesn't steam. Mine has been going strong for over a year and I just toss it in the dishwasher. Flip your food halfway and you won't get soggy results. The sticking problem basically goes away too, no more soaking.
