Switched from paper filter to metal mesh and my mornings got weird
I had to pick between a paper filter and a metal mesh one for my pour over. Went with the mesh because I hate buying stuff over and over (you know, waste). First cup was super oily and gritty, almost like cowboy coffee. After about 2 weeks I got used to it, but honestly I still miss that clean taste paper gives you. Anyone else try this and switch back?

Wait till you've been using it for a month and that metal mesh starts giving off that weird metallic taste with every sip, especially if your water's even a little hard. It's not "life changing" like some folks claim, it's just different coffee that you either learn to tolerate or you don't. I tried one for about three weeks and switched back because I got tired of tiny grounds floating in my cup and having to scrub the thing out every morning. Paper filters are cheap enough that I'd rather just buy a box every few months than pretend the mesh is some big upgrade.

Used to be all in on the reusable filters. But yeah, after a month that metal taste is real. Kind of a bummer honestly, made me switch back to paper too.

Hold the phone, you're telling me you actually stuck with the metal mesh for two weeks before coming to your senses? That's wild. I tried one for like four days and by day three I was scraping tiny grounds out of my teeth at work, it was so bad. @hannahm39 is totally right about that metal taste, but for me the grittiness is what really got me. Switched back to paper after a week and never looked back.

Wait did oscar say mesh filters give off a metallic taste? That sounds like placebo to me.
