One chat with a trail guide changed how I pick my tires

I was out near Moab last month and got stuck on a slickrock climb, just spinning and cussing. A guide from the local shop walked over and asked what tires I was running, then flat out said my all-terrains were the problem, not my line choice. He showed me his mud terrains and explained how the tread edges bite differently on wet stone. It hit different because I'd spent $900 on that set and thought I had it figured out. He wasn't rude, just matter of fact, and it made me question every review I'd read online. I swapped to a set of K02s last week and the difference on the same trail was night and day. Anyone else had a random stranger call out their setup and turn out to be right?

Different tires help in different spots, but that guide probably just knew that one trail better than you did. A guy in Moab sees the same rocks every day, so of course he sounds sure of himself, that doesn't mean his advice works everywhere else. All-terrains have saved me more times than I can count on loose gravel and mud, so I'd take a review from a hundred owners over one local's hot take any day.
