I thought the old guy at the trailhead was full of it about airing down, then I got stuck in sand
Two weeks ago I was at the Little Sahara dunes in Utah with my 2016 Tacoma, tires still at 32 psi because I figured my all-terrains could handle anything. This older dude in a beat up FJ Cruiser pulls up and says real quiet, "You're gonna bury that thing before you hit the first bowl." I laughed it off, I mean I've been wheeling for a bit and never had a problem. Twenty minutes later I'm dug in past the axles, shovel out, sweat pouring, looking like a total rookie. He comes back around, drops his tires to 15 psi, and just floats over the same sand I was clawing through. I was so sure airing down was for people who didn't trust their rigs. Now I carry a deflator and a compressor and I do it every single time. Has anyone else had a moment where the old school advice turned out to be the only thing that actually worked?
