Barefoot Running

Barefoot running is being touted widely in the news media and on running website as a natural alternative to running shoes. Many runners, when questioned believe that running barefoot is harmful and put the foot at risk or injury, not to mention going barefoot in the cold temperatures. Barefoot runners like to point to the natural benefits of barefoot running. They claim less injuries from running barefoot, they claims improved foot and leg biomechanics, and they claims increase foot and leg muscles strength. None of these claims are yet supported by any research evidence and remain unsubstantiated. More research is needed on this.
